Japanese drivers made by Rokurou Maruo, photos supplied by Yuji Suzuki

Yuji Suzukiさんは親切にも、これらの写真とドライヴァーとその制作者で、約１５年前に９０歳過ぎまでご存命であった丸尾再音研究所のRokurou Maruo氏に関する情報をいくつかお送り頂きました。トップの大きな写真は作業中の丸尾さんのポートレイトです。


Mr. Yuji Suzuki was kind enough to send these pictures and some information about the drivers and their creator. Rokurou Maruo, the maker of these speakers, died about 15 years ago when he was over 90 years old. The large picture on top shows a portait of Maruo-San at work.

丸尾ドライヴァーの特徴は以下の通り。

１．型紙＊と呼ばれる、渋紙を使ったコーン紙（訳注：Suzuki様によれば、着物の生地を裁断するする際に用いられるものとのこと）
２．セーム皮のエッジ
３．コーンと同じ材質の堅紙を使った蝶型ダンパー

The features of Maruo's drivers are:

1. The cone is made of Katagami, a Japanese paper which is soaked in persimmon juice. It is used generally for a paper pattern to cut cloth with and make a japanese dress, Kimono.

2. The surrounds are made of leather, chamois skin.

3. The butterfly damper is made of the same Katagami as the cones.

最初の３つの写真は彼の１６ｃｍドライヴァー、続いて２０ｃｍドライヴァー。４０ｃｍドライヴァーがこれに続く予定。

The first three pictures show his 16 cm drivers, followed by two pictures of his 20 cm driver. Pictures of the 40 cm driver will follow.
