Learning from the Past: Tweeter Bowls with Siemens Drivers

At the bottom of this page you can see two different tweeter bowls dating back to the 1950s: the two pictures on the left hand side show an aluminum bowl with 12 Lorenz tweeters, the two pictures on the right hand side show an Isophon bowl. These contructions have inspired me to build my own tweeter bowls. The drivers are Siemens C 72233-A34-A1, they reach at least 17.000 Hz. With the present connection DCR reads around 9 Ohms/unit. The diameter of the drivers is 10 cm, the diameter of the bowl is 32 cm, the height of the bowl is aproximately 9 cm. The beech wood bowls were custom made for me by a carpenter who has the big machines which are neccessary for this job. I made the metal clamps for fixing the drivers myself.

The principle of this system is obvious: The sound is spreaded much wider.
